Yes, exactly that about the truth. And I guess what I'm thinking about here is how letting that truth in changes you. If you keep going and keep fighting, yes, but then you create that quiet space in the part of you that looks at the odds and sees how the chips may land, and you put the mourning down — you can only mourn so much before it gets in the way of living. And then what? What does it mean to try to live with that space with honesty and care? To accept being an endling of a sort and to try to live that well, for yourself as well as those who come after.
