Here's a discussion with actual lawyer Richard Fontana about a license compatibility that didn't even involve copyleft, but was just about including some 2-clause BSD code into an Apache v2 project:

In the end that particular change was not merged, but the discussion reinforces the theme that source availability really isn't the only factor for compliance.
