@Moon We can create separate p2p ActivityStreams-based network and bridge it to classic fediverse just like Alex bridged Nostr. That will have immediate effect and will show everyone the path forward (assuming that p2p version is actually better).
I'm thinking about doing this for Tor instances.
There are many possibilities, I even remain optimistic about gradual improvement involving major projects like Mastodon. It is still developed by real human beings who can change their minds, not some faceless megacorp or bureaucratic machine.
