Sometimes it's designed to make you feel good, often it's designed to make you feel pissed. I know the old adage "send them home happy", but... at times you have to change the format. Look how shocked and surprised everyone was. They are doing their jobs, WORKING THE CROWD. Don't confuse how art makes you feel with whether or not it is actually good.
