Also, webshit is self-perpetuating. I believe you're familiar with the need to rewrite your web application every year because the tooling and best practices are constantly changing. This creates a demand for high-skilled web developers, and as more websites switch to "modern" web tech, this demand is constantly increasing. So do the salaries.
Those weird ugly websites don't have this problem - they could work for decades with minimal maintenance. Of course it's possible to create beautiful websites that require minimal maintenance, but people in the industry don't want lose their jobs, so it will take a while until the bubble pops and everyone realizes that weirdos were right all along.
