And it doesn't need to be crypto.
Even bartering is a form of money, for example if you grow carrots and somebody else produces meat, then your carrots are the money that gets you the product which is a slice of steak, and for the opposite side the meat is the money and carrots are the product.

No state, no internet, but still a monetary system.
