Children are often curious and trusting to the people they meet. As a parent, who you expose your children to are considered safe to them. If you don't keep them safe in this way, it is damaging to them. They will learn that they can't trust the decisions of their parents and that they need to defend themselves because they are left alone to figure these things out or to deal with the consequences of bad decisions.
