@oklomsy@fedi.cheeseland.xyz I initially started learning when I started getting more into anime (I grew up near a Japanese neighborhood so I was somewhat exposed to Japanese culture and immersion when I was younger). I know it sounds really weeb-ish, but I wanted to start understanding what I was watching and listening to without subtitles -- especially music.

Fast forward 4 years as I tell myself I'll learn while doing nothing, I meet my lovely boyfriend who's from a Japanese family, which re-inspired me to learn as I want to travel to Japan eventually. Around the same time, I started getting more involved with the Misskey project and I wanted to communicate better for collaboration.
