That alone turns the hypergamy on its head. The structure of the marriage makes the husband more dominant and the women more submissive. In a monogamous marriage the wife can withhold sex, complain, nag and engage in passive aggressive tactics to get what she wants. Not so in a polygynous marriage. What she wants is her husband’s attention and the only way to get it is to give him what he wants: a sweet, feminine, submissive and sexually available wife.
