My project's using Tokio/Actix/MongoDB, which is one of two sets of async/webserver frameworks they have available for Rust, and MongoDB because I think it's a better database system for a use case like federated microblogging.
We could really use some good uninfested software, Alex. If you've got the capacity - especially if you can get paid for it - to write an entirely new backend to replace Pleroma, instead of trying to get Pleroma to straighten up and act right, I'd say go for it.
