@katharsisdrill it's surprisingly difficult to convert radiation to electricity. you'd think it would be the easiest and most efficient thing of all, seeing as you're taking something on the electromagnetic spectrum, energy particles, and pushing electrons with it. fundamental physics. but no, even though you *can* do that, and they do so on the Voyager probes, for example, it's even less efficient than steam and turbines.
