I think something that's changed in me as I've grown up is that I've started to appreciate boring things more. I remember in 2016/2017 finding Discord and being amazed by how flashy and feature-rich it was. Keep in mind I was coming from Skype so even Discord then seemed insane.

Nowadays I find myself wanting more and more boring things. I don't want custom emojis, I don't want attachments, I don't want reactions, I don't want likes, I don't want stickers where you could have just uploaded media, I don't want nicknames that obscure the actual identity of the user, I don't want fucking HTML in my posts, I don't want flashy animations, I don't want UI designed by a firm, I don't want a meg of JavaScript running in a browser, I don't want things that distract me from why I'm using social media. I want a place I can write some text and post it with clarity on who can see it, reply to other text, and repost. That's it. I don't need more.
