Until now in #Canada, the general term of an author's #copyright persisted for 50 years after their death. As of Dec 30, that will be extended for another 20 years, even for authors whose works were about to enter the public domain. This change obvs does nothing to incentivize their art—they're already dead.

It's protectionism of authors who produced their work with expectations of shorter copyright terms, and theft from the public who were entitled to free access.
