(at the Hbf eatery) daughter: "I guess some people would say it's contradictory to eat something unhealthy like fries right after gym, but I say we deserve a treat…"
me: "oh those people are worried with like, aesthetics. fat loss and whatnot. we're not in this to lose fat we're powerlifters, we want more power. fat does nothing bad for us, in fact if we lose too much of it we get weak. we literally need more calories, like, protein yes, but also just basic carbon for your body to build muscles with. we don't stop eating things, we just add more things—protein shake when we arrive home, that kinda thing. but we eat more, grow more, lift more, build more strength—this is about being bigger, taking space, about being more."
daughter: (thoughtfully internalising that gym life can be like this too)
