I think they just love American fascism and enthusiastically went along with its disruptive project. I can imagine Sundar Pichai thinking it would be hilarious to arbitrarily rename a gulf and lake. The entire Silicon Valley broligarchy are actively trying to dismantle democracy everywhere and violate any and all legal and social norms.
They'll already be itching for an excuse to rename historic landmarks elsewhere.
