    I hate to shit on the work of people giving stuff away for free, but, this sucks. I am exhausted by every product I use being infested by this aesthetics-only design, design that is purely about how it looks and not how it works, even the open source ones, even the ones I support with donations or patronage. I agree with all of mcc’s critique but I don’t know how and don’t have the energy to channel this somewhere useful. maybe the thing that gets me to pick another instance will be this UI.

      I hate when interfaces that previously had nice, clear lines, *literal lines*, between interface elements of different semantic type, get redesigned to instead have vague, fuzzy, screen-eating¹ whitespace dividers. I have hated this since 2009. I stopped using the iPhone because it adopted this philosophy. I feel it massively increases cognitive load because instead of functional areas the screen is just various floating text ¹ I use apps at a relatively high zoom level and my screen is not big
