one of the silliest annoyances of modern coding with fancy IDEs is when you go and define a new variable, like

number_of_records_dropped = 0

and you're about to go add some code that increments it when a record throws an exception, but your IDE pops up a little error highlight warning you that number_of_records_dropped isn't used anywhere
