      The United States just approved its first new sunscreen ingredient since 1999. Europe has used it since 1999. Bemotrizinol blocks both UVA and UVB rays, breaks down more slowly than existing chemical sunscreens, and is absorbed less into the bloodstream than those same sunscreens.
