A blue line indicates active tracked space objects. It starts in the 1960ies, the blueline is quite flat until around 1998 where the slope gets noticably steeper - but it's still quite flat tbh. At around 2015 the curve gets steeper fast - a hockey stick graph.Other values graphed are dead, left overs - which are surpassed by active at 2020. Additional values are debris and total which are well above the leftover line and have significant bumps: a chinese weapon test in 2007 and the Idirium-Kosmos collision in 2009.The chart only goes until shortly after 2020 and lists 5000 active satellites. You may be surprised to hear/read that as of July 2026 there are more than 9600 Starlink satellites alone.see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Chinese_anti-satellite_missile_test and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_satellite_collisionimage credit: https://arxiv.org/abs/2204.10025v1 The Case for Space Environmentalism (A.
