When you send a message, it is sent to your recipient's swarm. A swarm is a group of Session Nodes tasked with temporarily storing messages for retrieval by the recipient at a later point.
- Are my messages stored on a blockchain?
No, your messages are not stored on a blockchain. Messages are stored by swarms, and are deleted after a fixed amount of time (called the "time-to-live", or TTL).

@bob Hmm, interestingly they don’t use blockchain to store messages (which would be horrible) but apparently they have a proof-of-stake token that they use to incentivise the nodes in a swarm (based on a quick skim of their FAQ).
