Combat is simplistic, but then it's mainly an action JRPG, the fact the player can actually skillfully play and win without levels is just a plus rather than the intent. I'd say it's not my favorite Dragon Ball game but that's only because I hold a special place in my heart for Xenoverse shenanigans. Kakarot is the far better game by every single measure.
Also shout out to the New Power Awakens DLC, which completely fucks the game up. It lets the player, from basically level 1 as soon as you get control of Goku, get infinite level up items and access to all of Goku's transformation skills. The player can fight Nappa with Super Saiyan God. :cirno_what2: It's a fine DLC for if you want to expedite the grind with easy fights and EXP items, but everything else it does is fucked up. I'm not using it myself beyond getting the support allies up a few levels, because I don't feel like dragging Yamcha around constantly.
As for a short other DLC thought, cleared Bardock after beating Frieza (logically where it should be). Great time, he plays great and his story is eternally one of the best.
