    "What New Mexico did is close that gap at the state level. By making this conduct a state felony regardless of the shenanigans Trump’s legal team dreams up to justify it, enforcement now belongs to state and local prosecutors who answer to New Mexicans, not to the pedo protector club Washington. And because committing a federal crime cannot legally be part of a federal officer’s official duties, those officers would have no federal preemption shield against state criminal charges (Brennan Center for Justice). In other words: we have claws now that don’t depend on Trump’s DOJ deciding to use them."
