Construction on the Clock Tower that would house the Great Clock of Westminster and its bell, Big Ben, began on the 28th of September, 1853.

Construction was completed on 31st May, 1859, which was quite quick for a construction project of this type.

It could’ve taken much longer, but they were working around the clock.
