I think the pitch meeting for War Machine went something like:

"Jack Reacher headbutts an alien battlemech. That's it. That's the whole pitch."

And then some poor graphic artist spent three months of their life trying to create a battlemech that wouldn't look too much like something from Battletech to avoid getting sued...

This is why we can't have nice things.
