@MK2boogaloo I think it's largely that they don't even know it is possible to not have that.

That was one of my favorite things about Cyberpunk 2077, like, every single house you enter has these overhead holographic advertisement displays. You go in the shitty hobo zone, there are ads being projected from the ceiling. You go into rich people's houses, hologram ads in every room.

When I first saw that, I was like, "Ha, yeah, that's an accurate and terrible future" but have you gone into a boomer's house? The television, you turn it on and the lower half of the screen is covered in ads. Turning the thing *off* shows ads for 30 seconds. Samsung holds open an XMPP connection to their own servers and everything you do, every button you push, every HDMI cable you plug in, voice commands into the little mic on the remote, every goddamn everything, goes right over the wire. So, sure, Windows sucks but it's one shitty ad box with microtransactions among the 80 others. I don't think they even realize that this is fucking stupid.
