(MLK Jr was assassinated in Apr 1968 -- and Bobby Kennedy in June 1968). But Dick Holler actually wrote the song, and he recorded this version of it in 1970. </p><p>I always thought this song was kind of odd because the only one who actually freed a lot of people was Abraham (Lincoln).
