When I was growing up during the 70s and 80s in a northwest suburb of Philadelphia, the creek near our house regularly froze over and the neighborhood kids would play hockey on it. Occasionally, you’d lose a puck down a muskrat hollow.
I wonder how often that creek freezes over today.
Even where I live in South Jersey, the local cedar lakes used to freeze over fairly regularly. Haven’t seen anyone placing ice hockey outdoors in a long time.
