A few thoughts on #StarWars
While it is an excellent movie in many ways, I've always seen it as the weakest of the trio. I know many people hate the Ewoks but I think Jedi is a much more successful movie in terms of story telling.
The look of Star Wars is just excellent. It really stands up after all these years, although some of the computer terminals do look a bit like 60s Star Trek. But overall, it looks good and there's no doubt it was pioneering.
One part of Star Wars that bores me is the space battle as soon as they leave the Death Star. It's like a scene that was just added in at the last minute and much of it is just cuts of each character turning their head edited into the section. It's just a very very dull scene and not strictly necessary.
I also find the final battle a bit dull. This is reprised in Jedi and that battle is much better, with them having to enter the Death Star and the added temptation of Luke bit.
I think maybe the problem with the attack on the Death Star in Star Wars is that we haven't spent much time with the rebellion, so the sense of loss and achievement is diminished. And the stakes are high, but they don't feel too high.
Another thing I noticed was Peter Cushing's acting. It's very theatrical and I think he plays the part too nice.
