fun thing: you can rip cd's with cdrdao (or readcd if you have Opinions, like I sometimes do) without unmounting them first if you provide the device as a SCSI LUN (logical unit number, e.g., `2,0,0`), but not if you feed it the drive as a device node (`/dev/sr0`).

Who knows what havoc this might or might not wreak on the ripping process if you're browsing it while raw ripping, but there you have it.
