- Embed this notice@Shadowman311 It's not just a factor of retards building them, there's the fact that the population increases and the housing booms of the last 30 years have exceeded the ability of dimension lumber forestry. This is why you see engineered beams and glue ups in new construction because there just isn't enough large timber to produce them as sawn beams anymore. Same with smaller sizes, all new growth and full of weak and warping sapwood.
Last time I priced out a construction project it was actually cheaper to do steel studs because the waste was single digit percent vs tossing out up to a quarter of the equivalent wood framing materials.
