This is one of the aspects of Korean history I take the most pride in. Slaves set fire to the records so they couldn't be bound by them--badass. It makes genealogies more challenging--they didn't just burn the records of slaves--but it's a worthy price to pay.

I note, however, that slavery in South Korea persisted until as late as 1950. Yes, far fewer in number, but still.
