You can actually say "severe lack of critical thinking skills" when that's what you mean instead of saying "severe cognitive deficit?" Because there are actually a fuckload of people who have very little in the way of critical thinking skills and no cognitive deficit at all.

Then maybe don't use the medicalizing/pathologizing language that we all know full well is associated with certain disabilities.
