to me the point of philosophy is to make elaborate jokes

what if the "enlightenment" pre-modern traditions aspired to is just the post-18th century state of mind; same one freud deconstructed - supposedly for debugging people who had become terminally self-reflective; probably just as much as rationalistic exegesis of unconsciously christian normative essentialism of the psyche

this touches on many disciplines but only through philosophy can one touch them all irreverently
