This is something I’ve seen black folks especially highlight is a belief in a “right to comfort” that upholds white supremacy. That people—especially white people—will only act as long as they don’t experience discomfort. I’ve seen folks unironically say that they think it’s unreasonable for allyship to mean giving up anything. If your allyship only exists within the bounds of your comfort, it is functionally worthless. Growth and change happen outside the comfort zone
