This section is about the investigation into residential schools in Canada a few years ago, which revealed up to 25,000 indigenous children died and were buried here. such an open secret that an official Truth and Reconciliation Commission report, issued in 2015, called on the government of Canada to launch a full investigation into deaths and possible murders in the schools.
The report meticulously examined what it categorized as a cultural genocide": between the 1880s and the late 1990s, at least 150,000 Firs mt Nations, Métis, and Inuit children from across Canada had been removed from their families and culture and forced to attend these socalled residential schools, which were run by the Catholic Church and other organizations at the behest of the federal and provincial govern-
ments. After conducting thousands of interviews, the TRC identified the
names of 3,201 children who died in residential schools, a number that has since been updated to 4,117. Justice Murray Sinclair, chairman of the TRC, later estimated that the true number may be closer to 25,000, and
he consistently urged the government to investigate the grounds of the
