Trying to appeal to a broader audience is bad for engagement.
If you want followers/customers/volunteers/community that strongly identify with your brand, you need to be confident in excluding people who don’t resonate with your stated values. The things that will create powerful brand loyalty with some people will be deal breakers for others, and this is okay. Being bland, generic, and safe is plainly unattractive
