Many of us in the west believe they live in a democratic society. But do we, really?

Fifteen years ago, I "discovered" Democratic Education and Sociocracy: A truly empowering way of education and a democratic system that is much more democratic than the popular "majority of votes" version. So, I took the initiative, together with Jaqcueline van Ewijk and Suzanne Thissen to start doe040 (https://doe040.nl), a democratic school based on sociocracy.

Anyway, only recently, I discovered the perspective that, besides the obvious school system, often depicted as a prison, for many of us our adult life also isn't democratic at all. The far majority of companies in our capitalist system are authoritarian, and THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE (to me). Or at least, I suggest that we reconsider this. We should strive to create and work for cooperatives, sharing responsibility and reaping the fruits of our labours ourselves. For inspiration, see also
