Honestly, yes. Heavy lifting works really well for weight loss (fat-loss). I'm kind of reaching to the edge of my knowledge base, but I remember GLUT4 receptors (blood sugar receiver into muscle or fat) are activated by muscle contractions independent of insulin. If someone is prediabetic, they're likely to have insulin resistance so the receptors get overstimulated and it takes more glucose to activate them. Working out causes direct activation of GLUT4, so it will directly lower your blood sugar. Squats would be the best bang for your buck because it's instantly grabbing the largest muscle groups in your body for activation, and hypertrophy (muscle growth) will also require more sugar. So yeah, pre-diabetics and early stage type 2 should lift heavy and eat clean and can possibly turn everything back to normal.
