This helps me decide whether I want a dark on bright composition or the reverse, a light on dark background. I can also manage the light source. The background is still undetailed, but the full illustration at thumbnail scale is already very close to the final version. I'm happy with how I found a colour palette around the orange mascot that I had never explored before.
