The information I've so far seen, does not provide any political affiliations. So, we don't know so far.
One thing is sure, though, the hit list is enormous (70) + it includes non-politicians.
So, anything is possible, still.

I do hope, though, that they were not political. That would tend to lead the US to(wards) the road of the mass assassinations of the 1920's Weimar Republic.
