I keep hearing fellow Europeans say US citizens would just "let it happen" or "roll over" in regards of Trump and Musk tearing down democracy in their country.

They don't. They never have. It just barely makes the news, or only local news. We have a massive blindspot here in Germany and its neighbourhood, and the stuff we see is a distorted version mixed with right-wing propaganda.
Making people feel like their protest in whatever form and shape would be useless and that nobody else is doing it, is vital for fascism, so it's no surprise this is what we hear from half a globe away.

You want to see protest? Proof? Check the #NoKings hashtag in the Fediverse, on Bluesky and on other social media platforms you might be at.

(And that's still not the whole picture considering many leave their phones at home for safety reasons, or upload stuff later after they could censor all the faces.)
