A 100 year old maths problem has been solved by an undergraduate at Penn State University. More impressive is the fact that the problem has helped to make wind turbines more efficient. The model of turbine efficiency was first proposed by a British aerodynamicist last century, but the model was based on a maths problem that assumed turbines were solid.
