Look the basic problem is that a lot of people don't actually think that all other people are actually people deserving of being treated with respect.
Like to me the American Dream is that "all people are created equal" and have the "unalienable rights", including to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". (It also meant this to Dr. King when he told us about his Dream, since you probably care more about his opinion than mine.)
The USA has always been pretty good to the people it considers people and protected by rights, its multitude of sins are in all the ways that it didn't treat people as people. Like we are doing right now.
There was a post on here the other day about how Worf is the only Klingon who takes Klingon culture seriously when everyone else lives it performatively, and I sometimes feel that way about American culture.
It is your civic duty, your patriotic duty to treat others equally. These are the aspirational values of our country. I wish others felt the power of that.
