A AEON Mall in the city I just returned from has some stupid レジゴー thing next to the self register section.
Basically, レジゴー is like the self register, except you need to scan all the stuff you're buying using a satanphone crapp.
Yet another attempt to discriminate pro-privacy people...

My favorite line when I was asking questions was:
AEON worker: "So you don't want to use it because don't know how to scan QR codes, or don't know how to use a smartphone?"
Me: "It's exactly because I know how to scan QR codes and how to use a smartphone that makes me not want to use it!"
    AEON worker: "???"

No, self registers never declined cash here.
      It's even the primary option.
The difference between レジゴー and regular self checkout is that the former requires you to scan products in advance while the latter requires you to scan products at the register.
But in both cases, all the same payment options are available as at the regular registers even.

@ryo Are they using dark patterns to herd people into the レジゴー lines? Or normal registers being shut down to “entice” victims into the shartphone option?

Over here, they’ve been declining cash at the self checkouts while keeping absolute skeleton crew on the manned checkouts. All because of a “coin shortage” that ended months (or years?) ago.
