   Can't sleep, heart-in-throat, worried sick about my hometown. We're used to snow, but this storm is a whole different beast. A cat 3 hurricane, but with snow and ice. My Facebook is full of people asking for help - trapped in houses with no heat, trees down on top of houses and gas lines, hundreds of motorists stranded in cars...

   This Christmas is going to be very tragic for a lot of families ?

     I wish I had better news about Buffalo but the city is in a state of emergency. To summarize the overnight police scanner:

     - Hundreds of people trapped in cars.
     - Thousands without power and freezing in their homes for 30h+
     - Everything is on fire - cars, houses, everything.
     - Emergency crews are trying but they're stuck. Fire engines breaking down all over the place. The Nat'l guard showed up and got stuck, too.
     - 7 people are confirmed dead.

     Make no mistake.

     When this is over, #Buffalo's unconscionable structural inequalities will be laid bare like never before.

     Poverty, inadequate housing, homelessness, underinvestment in mental health & domestic violence prevention, systemic racism... all of it.

     The whole "I'm from Buffalo, I don't fear snow, catch me hauling ass down the I-190 in a Blizzard with a super mighty in my hand" persona is a fun joke for locals but a terrible disaster preparedness plan for the government.

     How does **Buffalo** not have snowmobiles and an emergency response team for blizzards?!
