One of our users got a "too many requests" error this morning. Is that a "Mastodon" throttle"? Is it something that I can configure or a server overload or ...?

Also, they are hardcoded by Mastodon, not me. I don't do any rate limits on my end. So, they are only triggered by the actions of the user/IP, things like mass deletions, scrolling lots of pages very fast, etc.

Masto.host (mastohost@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 18-Dec-2022 21:57:58 JST Masto.host @Dave42W Recently I helped someone debug this error that ended up being the app on their phone (not being used) that was doing requests while they were on the computer accessing Mastodon, the combination of both actions simultaneously triggered the rate limit. You should see if that is the case in your end. Either that or some strange edge case usage you are doing.
