This is related to a post I wanted to write recently.

My shadowban from MastoArt made me notice how fucked up moderation on the fediverse is compared to the forums which I used frequently before fedi. Moderators would give you warnings and generally talk with you if they made some decision related to you.
On fedi, it's common to get slapped with a one-sided decision without any prior communication and chances are you'll only find out on accident or because something is amiss.

Of course, the scale of users and content is way different here, but it still sucks if you end up on the receiving end.

my problem with the current iteration of the fediverse is that there is ZERO accountability for instance admins. when they defederate an instance, you don't even *know* about it, your social graph just gets silently pruned. this is not a value judgement on defederation -- there are many reasons to do it -- but it seems really fucked up to me that an instance admin can unilaterally take a decision that disconnects part of your social graph, and you don't even KNOW about it.
