    There's a new groups system for the Fediverse called chirp.social. More info at:

    ➡️ https://chirp.social

    You can join a group by following the group account. You can post to the group by @-ing the group account, which then reposts that to all its other followers

    It is similar to the existing https://a.gup.pe system, but chirp.social allows a group manager to delete posts and ban people from the group.

    It works on all Fediverse platforms including Mastodon.

      @feditips do you have to belong to an instance to follow a group on chirp.social? In other words, can you only join/follow the group if you are already on Mastodon or elsewhere in the Fediverse? It seems to me you don't have to be on Mastodon to create a grroup, hence my question.

      p.s. Just to make clear, the https://chirp.social system uses account addresses. Once a group has been created, you follow the group's account address, and to post to the group you mention the group's account address.

      More info about what account addresses are here: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-basic-tips/#WhatsMyAccountsAddress

      Every account on the Fediverse has a unique account address.

      p.p.s. Be careful out there, groups can be registered by anyone. Groups are moderated by the person who registers them.

      I just got (accidentally?) tagged in a message where someone told someone else about "taking control of" the Politics group on chirp.social.

      I've no idea what they meant, because they deleted the message seconds after it appeared.

      Also, for any techy people out there, Chirp runs on FOSS so people can set up their own Chirp servers. Groups don't have to be on chirp.social.

      A place to discuss politics on the fediverse. A NOTE ----- You may have seen this toot from @feditips https://mstdn.social/@feditips/109503666279655712 I have to admit, in my excitement, I did accidentally tag them (and a few others) in a PM about taking control of this group. My intention was primarily to keep some 4chan dweeb from taking control of it and letting all the other dweebs ruin it. If you see that happening and I'm not taking care of it, let me know.

      @iamcanehdian

      Thanks for that! Hopefully it was all a misunderstanding.

      I saw their message for literally a few seconds seconds so really didn't know what they meant.
