What does it say about Canada when rebuttal to ppl saying MAiD expanding too quickly without looking at all unintended consequences as seen on the ground is that we can't hold ppl "hostage" to slow inequitable system?
So oppressed ppl are to wait for equity to live, yet can die?

whetstone (whetstone@romancelandia.club)'s status on Monday, 12-Dec-2022 12:01:50 JST whetstone @AmyTanMD I heard an interview about this on NPR today, and was really disappointed that the interviewer did not talk about people choosing MAiD because of a lack of social supports to make life bearable. They were ostensibly addressing the controversial nature of the program and as far as I’m concerned, that’s the major controversy I’ve seen.

whetstone (whetstone@romancelandia.club)'s status on Monday, 12-Dec-2022 12:05:35 JST whetstone @AmyTanMD I have seen (relatively wealthy, white-presenting, terminally-ill) people choose assisted dying in a way that does seem compassionate.
But if people are “choosing” death because they can’t afford a comfortable place to live/enough to eat/access to existing accommodations and treatments that would help them, the whole idea needs fundamental rethinking.
