I think that, yes, most entertainment nowadays is cheap, and more substantial entertainment is being swept under the rug (it's a saying in English which sort of means being hidden), however I think that the main reason is not because of entertainment quality, but because there is a vested interest (mainly by large corporations and governments) for people to chase after unimportant things instead of getting to know themselves.

However I have heard people complaining that they were bored while they were busy, in both English and my native language.
